The SRV-SUAV project started as a fun idea that David Skinner had had a few years back. He quickly realised that a project of that scale was to big to tackle on his own.
In 2008, David and some of his fellow students from RMIT were looking for work placement as part of their course. As you may well know, the aerospace industry is highly regulated and this made finding a good placement very difficult.
David put his idea to the group as an alternative to the normal work placement system. Everyone, including RMIT, approved the idea and so started the SRV-SUAV project.
The project incorporates the design, manufacture and testing of a Short Range VTOL Survailance UAV. So far we have completed the design stage and are now half way through the manufaturing of components. Testing will start in late November (2008).
During the design phase, our team woked as a whole to decide on the design specifications for the UAV. Once some ground rules had been laid down and everyone understood the projects aim, each team member went away and came up with their own dsign to meet the specifications.
